Women's Suffrage

130 years

On 19 September 1893, women won the right to vote in elections in Aotearoa New Zealand.

As a result, we became the first self-governing country in the world to extend this right to all women. This year marks 130 years.

Suffrage Day acknowledges and celebrates this important milestone, and brings attention toward the ongoing issue of gender equality here and around the world.

This year we are holding a number of events focused around Women's Suffrage...

'Invincible'
