Being a Woman in...

An exhibition that will take us on a tour around the globe, from the female perspective.

19 September 2023 marks 130 years of women holding the right to vote (suffrage) in Aotearoa New Zealand. To celebrate this, we are holding a special open day at the Nelson Women’s Centre, on Tuesday 19 September from 10am-4pm.

During that day we would like to hold an exhibition – called ‘Being a woman in…’ – that will take us on a tour around the globe, from the female perspective.

This is a call for your contributions – share with us your perspective on the current situation of women’s rights in “your country”.

You could do this by submitting:

  • Short stories
  • Poems
  • Drawings
  • Paintings
  • Recordings
  • Photographs
  • A speech that we could weave into our open day

On the day there will be the opportunity for people to vote for their favourite submission. There will be a prize for the submission with the most votes.

The deadline for submissions is Thursday 31 August
